Mayor Cox Announces Chula Vista Centennial Year of Service in Honor of Martin Luther King Day of Service

“Dr. King devoted his life to building a more perfect union in the United States, and we can take that message and apply it on a local level here in the City of Chula Vista,” said Mayor Cheryl Cox. “Whether we mentor students, clean up neighborhoods or provide meals to those in need, there are ways to focus our efforts and help create a caring and improved city as we celebrate our centennial.”

Enacted in 1994, the King Holiday and Service Act, led by the Corporation for National and Community Service, established the King Holiday as a national day of service and encourages Americans to give back to their communities and make an ongoing commitment to service throughout the year.

All Chula Vista Centennial activities are organized by the Committee of 100 volunteers in partnership with community businesses, educational groups, and non-profit organizations and will continue through 2011.
